Now it’s time to Document MY Life
“A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” - Lao Tzu
I often share this quote with my clients during our initial consult. In fact, I say it after I have congratulated them on taking that first step because taking that first action is the hardest part.
So here I am, taking my first step (after 13 months) to organise my photos and post about the journey publicly 🎉. I’ve been overwhelmed by the scope of the project and afraid that I will have to keep showing up along this long road and keep being accountable to you and ultimately to myself.
At the end of the day I’m just like you - I know I need to organise my photos and I’ve been resisting doing it. It’s definitely easier to guide others to organise their photos when I’m not emotionally attached to their images and stories.
Why am I keeping a blog?
I want to use this platform to share my own photo transformation and document the process for myself but also with the intention of inspiring you. I grew up in a camera store and went on to become a professional photographer - needless to say, I have A LOT of (disorganised) photos and I need to ‘PhotoGenie’ my own life.
To use as a depository of useful links and important information related to preserving, backing up and ultimately saving our photos both for my own and your reference.
Why am I ready to start posting now?
I’ve recently moved houses, moved offices, have been accepted into the ATTO accelerator program for female founders (to supercharge PhotoGenie) AND a few weeks ago my iMac desktop computer crashed ☠ !!!!! (and I knew it would be difficult for me to find this photo to share on the blog - in the end I realised I’d send it to my brother in WhatsApp).
Luckily my entire computer was constantly being backed up to Backblaze so all my data was safe and I just needed to restore it - more on this very important topic in another blog post.
Also, my brother has just opened the next iteration of michaels - michaels Camera Hire and he’s asked me for all the memory cards back that I borrowed since we closed that part of the business 12 months ago - I never delete photos from memory cards and keep them as a form of backup - so parting with these particular memory cards will involve some action and planning - a perfect opportunity to document the process and get this show on the road.
Great! The first step is done and I can ✔ writing this blog off my to-do list. Stay tuned. I promise to add more images to my posts as they become more organised and easier to find :)
